Small Business Saturday - 1st Dec 2015

Small businesses across the country are poised to maximise a fantastic sales opportunity this Saturday 5th December, on Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday started 3 years ago to highlight the vital role that small businesses play on our high streets and in our economy.  Small businesses represent a large number of businesses in this country as well as delivering employment, tax revenues and other community benefits.  Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots campaign, which sets out to highlight the importance of small businesses and encourage consumers to ‘shop local’, supporting small businesses in their communities.  The day itself takes place on the first shopping Saturday in December each year, and falls in contrast to the big discounting by major retailers on the increasing phenomenon of Black Friday weekend at the end of November.

As a small business, if you haven’t yet put a plan in place then there are still a few days left to capitalise on this event.  By visiting the website you can download and print information toolkits, logos, posters and window stickers to advertise that you are part of the nationwide campaign.  You can also get involved online and through social media by listing your business on their ‘Small Business Finder’ for free and getting a free shout out for your plans for the day on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.  On Twitter you can use and follow the hashtag #SmallBizSatUK.

As well as businesses, many local authorities are getting involved by hosting Small Business Showcase events and funding road closures and free parking to encourage shoppers to high streets to support their local small businesses on the day.

If Small Business Saturday feels like another opportunity that you just don’t have the resources to utilise then hiring a virtual assistant might be the right next step for your business.
