Meet the VA: Jenny

Meet the VA: Jenny

Here at Get Ahead VA our people are everything. Our ever growing team has a wide range of highly skilled professionals with different backgrounds, expertise and even different personalities to ensure that we can find exactly the right VA to match our customers’ requirements.

Here’s 60 seconds with one of the VAs who has over a decade of direct marketing experience:

Name: Jenny Serra

Area of expertise: Social Media Marketing, Graphic Design & Marketing

When & why did you join Get Ahead VA: I joined Get Ahead VA in October 2015 as I decided to take the plunge and leave my safe office job for a role that would challenge me and allow me to use all the skills I have gained over the years. Being able to work from home and be there for my young son when he comes home from school is also a huge benefit – and no more rush hour traffic jams to fight through either!

What did you do before you joined Get Ahead VA: I have worked for a direct marketing company for 11 years – starting as a Marketing Assistant before progressing up to Assistant Marketing Manager within a short period. I completed various roles within the company and covered everything from catalogue production, marketing reports, campaign management, new product development, proof reading and copy writing to photography – phew! I also gained my CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing and am currently completing a Graphic Design Diploma (which I love!).

Career highlight to date: Managing my first ever exhibition all on my own – everything from deciding on the venue, having a stand custom built and arranging the staffing. It was a fantastic challenge and, I’m pleased to say, a huge success!
Plans for the future: To continue working at Get Ahead, keep building my skills and have a better work/life balance. I am looking forward to using the time that used to be spent in the car travelling to the office to get some exercise and get out for a run instead.

The Secret To Effective LinkedIn Text Ads

LinkedIn can be an excellent marketing tool for your business.  From simply posting updates to sophisticated advertising campaigns, there are a number of ways in which you can harness its’ potential.

One way you can use LinkedIn in your social media marketing strategy is through Text Ads.  Text ads are a simple and easy way to get started with Linkedin advertising.  You can choose the audience you want to reach, easily create your own ads, set your own budget – without contracts or long-term commitments.  You only pay for the adverts that work – per click or per impression.

Text ads appear on the right hand side of a LinkedIn page and you can create them yourself using the step by step LinkedIn guide.

We are celebrating! Finalist in National Business Award

Get Ahead VA selected as a finalist for mumandworking National Business Awards.

We are delighted to have been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2016 mumandworking awards in the Flexible Business of the Year category.

The national mumandworking awards celebrate and showcase the exemplary businesses, individuals and associates demonstrating that family-friendly, flexible working ‘works’ – benefiting parents and children as well as businesses and the UK economy.  We have been selected as a finalist in the Flexible Business of the Year category, in recognition of our active promotion of exceptionally family-friendly and flexible working for our team.

Our Founder  Rebecca Newenham said: “We are thrilled to have been selected as a finalist for these awards for the third year running.  We were very lucky to win the award back in 2014 and are hoping that 2016 will be able to match that success.  The fact that we have consistently impressed the judges year after year is a testament to our flexible working model.  Over the years our team has grown, with more and more virtual assistants able to complete interesting work for amazing clients from the comfort of their own home and around the demands of their families.”

The awards ceremony takes place next month on October 11th in London with a VIP celebratory reception.  Judges and speakers include Sarah Willingham (as seen on BBC’s Dragon’s Den), Caprice Bourret, Susannah Schofield OBE, Julie Baker, Head of Enterprise, Business Banking, NatWest and Debbie Bird from media partner Now Baby.  Nearly two hundred finalists, judges, press representatives and VIP guests are expected to attend.  We are looking forward to the event and keeping our fingers crossed it will be a successful night.
