We spoke to Salvatore, head of our Bristol branch, to find out more about how he spends a typical working day.

Early riser

When I start the day can really vary depending on what I’m doing that day. Usually I get up at 7 a.m., but if I’m going to a breakfast networking meeting then I can set my alarm for as early as 5 a.m.! That might sound daunting, but it’s best to do your networking at a time that works for you – sometimes that might be lunchtime, to fit around things like the school run, and sometimes it might be early in the morning, so that when you’ve finished you still have the whole day ahead of you.

Out and about

On a typical working day, I spend about half my time in the office and half my time out. If I’m out, I’m usually networking – that is a big part of being a Regional Director – and I will try to combine networking events with client meetings to make the most of my time out of the office. I’ll either see clients at the events, or I’ll meet up with them afterwards.

When I’m driving back to the office, I normally make calls, or listen to the radio – you don’t have to work every minute of the day! I like to take an hour for lunch, if I haven’t eaten out, and I’ll either eat at the table or at my desk, depending on how much work I have to do.

Office hours

I dedicate the afternoons to office work, including making phone calls, sending emails, doing admin and updating social media. I also contact the Get Ahead VA team once a day – it’s really great having that regular contact and knowing the support is there if I need it.

My working day finishes at 5 p.m., which is perfect for spending the evenings with my family. My wife and I share the childcare, and we also have supportive parents who can help, which means that I’m able to fit my work around my family life. And that’s what a regular day is like for this Get Ahead VA Regional Director!
