How to thank your employees

As the year draws to a close, it’s a good time to look back on all you’ve achieved and acknowledge the hard work of the people who helped to get you there. If you’re a business owner, this will include your employees – that dedicated team of people who keep things running smoothly all year round.

But how can you show your appreciation for your employees in a meaningful way? Read on to discover some of our favourite ways to say thank you.

  1. Personal messages

If you have the time to sit down and write a message to each of your employees, then do it. Receiving a Christmas card from an employer is a nice gesture, but if it contains a personal, handwritten note then it will feel extra special.

  1. Festive perks

Paying for an office Christmas party is the traditional way to celebrate your staff, but there are plenty of other seasonal treats you could splash out on too – especially if your staff will be working over the Christmas period. For example, you could buy some tasty festive treats for the office, hold an end-of-year awards ceremony, or give the whole team an extra day off in the new year.

  1. Personalised gifts

With January comes new year’s resolutions, so why not ask your employees what their resolution will be and then give them gifts that will help them to keep it? Put money towards running shoes or gym membership for the person who wants to get fit; splash out on a nice notebook and pen for the person who is going to write a novel; or buy an adventurous recipe book for the person who wants to cook more. This is a great way to show your staff that you care about their lives outside of work too!

  1. Extra help

Many people worry about taking time off because work will build up in their absence and there will be more to deal with when they get back. You can ease this worry for your employees by bringing in some temporary help over Christmas, or in the new year to help you get through the backlog. A virtual assistant can help with everything from telephone answering to accounting to general administration, to help the whole team get back into the swing of things in January.
