Here’s 60 seconds with one of our VAs, Claire, a marketing specialist who recently joined our team in Leeds.
Name: Claire Rooney
Area(s) of expertise: Marketing strategy and planning, content and blog writing, and social media management. I am also an experienced business development manager in professional services and can help businesses achieve their growth objectives by helping to implement client development plans and managing target programmes, involving conducting research and building sales pipelines. I thrive on building relationships with clients to deliver successful marketing and business development campaigns.
When and why did you join Get Ahead VA? I started as a freelance marketer at the start of 2019 and joined Get Ahead VA Leeds in April 2019, as I saw it as a great opportunity to broaden my client base.
What did you do before you joined Get Ahead VA? I have worked in marketing for the last 20 years, mainly in professional services as a marketing manager or business development manager. I have worked for some of the largest professional services firms in the UK, such as Grant Thornton and Irwin Mitchell, where I was able to build a really broad range of skills: event management, bid writing, client satisfaction management, pipeline building and content writing. Before that I worked in manufacturing in the steel industry and for a not-for-profit membership organisation. Before going freelance, I was employed as a marketing consultant in a small marketing business, and it was there that I gained the necessary insight and confidence to go it alone as a freelancer.
Career highlight to date: I think taking the plunge into running my own business has to be the proudest moment of my career, although I will never forget, very early in my career, flying out to Hong Kong to give a presentation to a sales team there, which was an amazing opportunity.
Plans for the future: My short-term plan is to expand my client base a little more and build strong, lasting relationships with my clients. I am also looking to get involved in some voluntary work to share my knowledge and experience, and am currently looking at a couple of opportunities, so watch this space.
