Meet the VA: Emma

Here at Get Ahead VA, our people are everything. Our ever-growing team includes a wide range of highly skilled professionals with different backgrounds, expertise and personalities to ensure we can find exactly the right virtual assistant to match our customers’ requirements.

Here’s 60 seconds with one of our VAs, Emma, whose background in digital marketing and PR led to her current specialism as a blogger and copywriter.

Name: Emma McCarthy

Areas of expertise: Copywriting and blogging

When and why did you join Get Ahead VA? I joined the Get Ahead VA team in February 2018. I work from home as a freelance writer, which has given me a good amount of flexibility while raising a family. There are many benefits to working from home, but I do miss having colleagues to turn to when I need to discuss ideas and come up with solutions. Furthermore, I love working with small businesses and helping them realise their marketing goals.

What did you do before you joined Get Ahead VA? For five years I was the marketing arm for Blakedown Landscapes Operations. I was responsible for writing blog posts and web content, managing PR and assisting on tender bids. After facing redundancy, I decided to set up as a freelancer to provide blogging and copywriting services for businesses. I have also worked as a project manager for a digital agency, and a PR executive for a global firm.

Career highlight to date: Writing an investigative article for a client’s blog, which was picked up by an ITN production team and praised for how well written and thoroughly researched it was.

Plans for the future: Writing full time has always been my goal. It’s a brilliant job with plenty of variety and scope to strengthen my skills and knowledge. I am looking forward to broadening my writing skills, working on new projects and continuing to grow my business.
