Here’s 60 seconds with one of our VAs, Gwen, who joined Carrie’s team last year.

When and why did you join Get Ahead? I joined Get Ahead in 2017. I had been looking for work opportunities with the flexibility to enable me to spend time with my children whilst still making the most of my skillset. A friend suggested becoming a VA, so when Carrie took on the franchise covering my local area, it was a perfect opportunity for me to join this group of professional and forward-thinking people.
What did you do before you joined Get Ahead? I have a background in finance and analysis. Having spent 8 years in retail, transitioning from finance to IT departments, I moved into telecoms, where for 7 years I worked in analysis roles in strategy and billing teams. Following a break in my career and 5 years living abroad, I have most recently been working in an office using my varied skills in an administrative role, including spreadsheet/report development, analysis, process reviews and managing sales emails.
Career highlight to date: Whilst working in the strategy team in my telecoms role, I worked with a steering committee looking at mobile phones and health. In this role I was responsible for putting together an international conference including key people from the World Health Organization. My role involved managing all correspondence with attendees and documenting global statements; this required liaising with people from many countries and different levels of seniority, and we achieved great results.
Plans for the future: I am looking forward to developing my career as a VA with Get Ahead, increasing the skills and services I can offer and enjoying the job satisfaction and work/life balance that comes with this.
