Meet the VA – Jenni Shipp

Here’s 60 seconds with one of our VAs, Jenni, who recently joined the Get Ahead VA team.

Expertise: EA and small business support, social media planning

When & why did you join Get Ahead VA:

I joined Get Ahead VA in February 2020 as a perfect way to get back into some EA work alongside raising my three children. I am thrilled to be studying a degree in Midwifery at the University of Surrey from September 2020 – so Get Ahead allows me to put my current skills to use and help earn some additional income to support me throughout my study. I am so excited to be able to be supporting a variety of entrepreneurs and professionals with my wide range of skills – the biggest reward for me if being able to free up time for clients so they are able to focus on areas where their strengths lie.

What did you do before you joined Get Ahead VA?

I have over ten years’ experience within financial services, starting at Lehman Brothers, and Nomura as an Admin Assistant within Leveraged Finance, followed by a boutique headhunting firm as a PA and Office Manager, and most recently at BlueMountain Capital where I supported the Investor Relations and Marketing Team as well as the London CEO with personal and business tasks, pitches and roadshows. Since leaving full-time work I started an online retail business called The Baby Sleep Shop which has been such an exciting journey and has taught me so much about small business and social media, branding, website design/ management, and strategy planning; I have a host of knowledge, skills, and understanding in this area that I am so excited to be able to use when supporting entrepreneurs and business owners. I pride myself in being honest, proactive, efficient and communicative but also fun and creative to work with!

Career highlight to date:

A work-related highlight would be meeting HRH The Prince of Wales at Prince’s Trust event which was brilliant. A personal highlight has to be starting and launching my online business, which has been such an adventure, I particularly enjoyed the challenge of creating the branding and social media content. I don’t think you ever stop learning as a business owner!

Plans for the future: I am excited to get underway with my midwifery studies, and I have my own business on the ‘back burner’ for now as I focus on VA work and my studies as well as my family life.
