When & why did you join Get Ahead VA: I joined Get Ahead VA in October 2015 as I decided to take the plunge and leave my safe office job for a role that would challenge me and allow me to use all the skills I have gained over the years. Being able to work from home and be there for my young son when he comes home from school is also a huge benefit – and no more rush hour traffic jams to fight through either!
What did you do before you joined Get Ahead VA: I have worked for a direct marketing company for 11 years – starting as a Marketing Assistant before progressing up to Assistant Marketing Manager within a short period. I completed various roles within the company and covered everything from catalogue production, marketing reports, campaign management, new product development, proof reading and copy writing to photography – phew! I also gained my CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing and completed a Graphic Design Diploma.
Career highlight to date: I love using my marketing background in combination with my graphic design skills to create branding for businesses. I recently created all new web graphics, letterhead, business cards etc, for a new client, and I love seeing it all come together and create an strong brand for the company.
Plans for the future: To continue building upon my design skills and ensure I keep the work/life balance that this career has given me.
