When & why did you join Get Ahead VA: I joined Get Ahead VA in March 2012. I had recently started my own business and was looking for some extra income from a flexible role that could tie in with this. I met Rebecca Newenham, founder of Get Ahead VA at a mutual friend’s birthday party. We used to work together about 15-20 years ago so there was a lot of catching up to do. Rebecca told me about Get Ahead VA and it seemed to be the flexible working solution that I was looking for so I joined the following week.
What did you do before you joined Get Ahead VA: I worked for Superdrug in a PA and admin role as well as a buying role, which is where I met Rebecca when she was a buyer there. I then moved on to work with another blue chip company, Alliance Healthcare and then other wholesalers in the UK. During this time I met someone in the same type of business who was interested in setting up on her own and asked me to join her. We have been in business now for 3 years which I do alongside my work for Get Ahead VA.
Career highlight to date: Lots of highlights, but probably showing a profit in the first year of our business comes top. We completely exceeded our expectations.
Plans for the future: My business is growing, but I still love working with Get Ahead VA. I work for a particular client on a regular basis which works really well – I love seeing their business grow and develop and being part of that journey.
