Top tips for using social media over Christmas

Have your business’ social media accounts got a bit neglected in the lead-up to Christmas? Don’t worry, there’s still time to get things back on track – and you certainly should, because social media has an important influence on sales, both online and in store, over the festive season.

According to research published by Curalate, shoppers in the UK are now 79% more likely to find products on social media compared to just two years ago.* The most influential platform is Instagram, and more than 33% of consumers will browse a company’s social media to research the brand and its products before they buy.

So if you want to give your business’ social media a final push before Christmas, here are our top tips to make it fun, festive and engaging for your followers!

1. Update your profiles

Enter into the Christmas spirit by giving your social media accounts a bit of festive sparkle. Put up new profile and cover pictures for the holidays, give your logo a festive twist, and update your bios on Twitter and Instagram to link to your Christmas promotions. Plus, if you love a good pun, you could even give your brand a funny seasonal name on Twitter!

2. Push your promotions

Your Christmas campaigns should be front and centre of your social media activity – if you’re having a sale, offering discounts or running a competition, make sure you shout about it online. You could also create a hashtag, so you can keep track of the buzz you’re creating.

3. Offer something

As well as promoting your products, try to post content that your followers will find valuable, interesting or funny. You could spark their interest by sharing Christmas recipes, gift guides for a range of budgets, or wrapping tips for awkwardly shaped presents. Don’t forget to keep track of the responses to get a clearer idea of what sort of content your audience engages with.

4. Go behind the scenes

People love to see the human faces behind the brand, and Christmas is a great excuse to lift the curtain. You could share pictures of your team in their Christmas jumpers, snap some photos of a pile of orders waiting to be sent, or reflect on how your business has performed over the past year and thank your customers for supporting you.

5. Give back

Of course, Christmas is about so much more than presents, and you can capture the spirit of the season by donating to charitable causes, volunteering your time over the holidays or raising awareness about an issue close to your heart. Social media is a fantastic way to share the true meaning of Christmas – warmth, togetherness and goodwill to all!
